Should the USA's and the rest of the world's military power pull out of Iraq now?

War in Iraq. Should we withdraw?

"Should all troops be withdrawn from Iraq?" Now this is a question that sparks controversy no matter where it is asked. Now obviously, if only the occupying nations were to be considered, the answer would undoubtedly be yes. If the countless billions of dollars that are being put into this war were to be put instead into other, more economically productive fields, a lot could be done to better our own lives. However, it's not just our lives that we need to worry about.

For whatever reason the USA went into Iraq in the first place (be it to finally get rid of Saddam Hussein, to eliminate the alleged weapons of mass destruction or just to get a stronger grasp on the oil supply), it cannot be argued that people were not helped by this. Remember the rape houses? The chemical weapon attacks on the Kurds? These atrocities were for the most part eliminated when the USA and others invaded. If they leave now, when there is still clear and powerful opposition, what will be the cost? Will another tyrant take control and reinstate the same horrible way of life that Hussein brought upon them? Can anybody in good conscious leave the Iraqis to this miserable fate? Quite frankly, I don't believe so. However, the approach that is being taken right now is obviously not working too well.

By withdrawing most troops and leaving only military advisor's and a armed contingent to guard and aid the current Iraqi government, both sides of the problem would be addressed. There would be a much lesser chance of the country returning to the Hussein type era, and the 'USA go home!' mentality would be greatly lessened as encounters between the troops and general public would be limited.

In short, what we would be doing is letting them solve the Iraqis solve their own problems, but giving them a sort of safety harness to make sure that they don't fall back into the a tyrannical pit. (Not only saving the occupying countries billions of dollars, but also keeping a hand on the oil supply :P)
